Il Boeing 737 è un aereo a reazione a corto raggio, ad ala bassa e bimotore, prodotto negli Stati Uniti. La propulsione è fornita da due motori Pratt and Whitney JT8D o CFM International CFM56. Il volo del prototipo è avvenuto nel 1967, mentre la produzione in serie è iniziata nel 1968 ed è tuttora in corso. Il Boeing 737 è l’aereo passeggeri più ordinato della storia e a metà 2017 ne erano stati costruiti ben 9.486 esemplari! L’aereo di questo tipo è stato creato come risposta della Boeing alla richiesta delle compagnie aeree americane di una nuova macchina passeggeri caratterizzata da bassi costi operativi. Inoltre, utilizza un sistema di sedili “2×3”, cioè due file di 3 posti nell’abitacolo, che permetteva di trasportare un numero maggiore di passeggeri. Nel corso della produzione in serie sono state realizzate diverse versioni di sviluppo di questo aereo di grande successo. Il primo prodotto in serie è stato il Boeing 737-100, ma il modello Boeing 737-200 è stato rapidamente messo in servizio, con prestazioni e proprietà aerodinamiche migliorate. I modelli Boeing 737-600, 737-700 e 737-800, apparsi alla fine degli anni ’90, utilizzavano l’avionica più moderna, con un layout della cabina di pilotaggio in vetro e display LCD al posto degli orologi analogici. Una delle versioni più recenti è il Boeing 737-900, che ha volato nel 2000. La sua aerodinamica è stata migliorata e la forma delle ali è stata modificata, grazie alla quale l’autonomia è migliorata. A seconda della versione, il Boeing 737 può ospitare da 104 a 215 passeggeri.
