All’inizio della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, il mondo fu stupito dalle efficaci tattiche di bombardamento in picchiata del JU 87 Stuka. Testato per la prima volta durante la guerra civile spagnola, subì notevoli cambiamenti di progettazione prima di diventare il formidabile bombardiere dei primi anni ’40. Per due anni, questo aereo è stato uno dei più importanti della storia. Per due anni, questo aereo fu una delle armi di maggior successo della Luftwaffe e fu utilizzato per guidare le incursioni tedesche in territorio nemico. Il JU 87 fu molto utilizzato sul fronte russo come arma anticarro e fu impiegato anche nel deserto africano nei raid di Malta e nelle campagne italiane. Sebbene fosse considerato obsoleto già due anni dopo l’inizio della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, lo JU 87 continuò ad essere impiegato fino alla fine della guerra e si distinse per essere, oltre all’americano Douglas Dauntless, l’unico bombardiere in picchiata prodotto in serie della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
