Il Typhoon IB, noto come “Tiffy”, si distinse nella battaglia di Normandia distruggendo 137 carri armati e aprendo la strada alla liberazione della Francia e del Belgio. Gli squadroni n. 56 e 609 di Duxford ricevettero i primi Typhoon nel 1941. Nel 1942 lo squadrone n. 609, trasferito a Manston, superò gli Spitfire nell’intercettare gli Fw 190. I Typhoon distrussero i primi due esemplari di Fw 190. I Typhoon distrussero i primi due Me 210 sopra le isole britanniche. La velocità massima di 417 MPH a 20.000 piedi fu ottenuta in 7,6 minuti. Il suo vero elemento era costituito da otto razzi da 3 pollici e quattro cannoni da 20 mm.
